The bus system in St. Lucia consists of privately owned and operated minivan buses. It is inexpensive and efficient and it runs often during the day on major routes. You must remember that there are few buses after dark or on Sundays, and long rides may be uncomfortable.
Taxis are plentiful at the airports, Castries and resort areas. The St. Lucian Taxi Association has established fixed fairs for the major routes to prevent taxi drivers from overcharging tourists arriving at the airport, but make sure to negotiate your fare before you get in. If possible it is best to have your hotel or resort book your travel arrangements ahead of time.
There are numerous car rental companies on the island, and can be found at both airports, Castries and some resorts. You must be 25 years old and provide a valid drivers license and credit card. If you don’t have an international drivers permit, you will have to purchase a temporary St. Lucian one at the rental car agency, immigration or at either of the airports. Remember that driving in St. Lucia is on the left.
